Getting your firm authorised by the SRA

The SRA recently combined individual authorisation teams for alternative business structures (ABSs) and recognised bodies into a single firm-authorisation unit, "Firm-Based Authorisation". All applications for authorisation will now be processed through this unit.
The new approach is intended to provide clients and the general public with confidence that those engaged in legal services are delivering to high standard; that firms authorised by the SRA will be managed appropriately, and that those owning and managing law firms have the public's interest at heart.
The SRA welcomes innovative structures, but it has a responsibility to ensure that applicants have tested their business model thoroughly and have thought through the implications for clients and the public interest, should their firm experience financial difficulties.
This forum will be of interest to prospective recognised bodies, ABSs and sole practitioners.

Recordings of our webinars are available to download or view online. Viewing an SRA webinar recording cannot be counted as "attendance at an accredited course" under the terms of our CPD scheme. However, viewing an SRA webinar recording can count toward your annual CPD requirement on an "actual time" basis under the heading of "other activities" (up to 75 per cent of your annual CPD requirement may comprise "other activities").

Roadshows
Introduction to outcomes-focused regulation
We completed a series of five roadshows—in London, Birmingham and Manchester—during September 2011. We held 13 roadshows across England and Wales earlier in 2011.
